Convention at Salt Lake City ~ June 22-29, 2014 

My sister Michelle was travelling from Malaysia so I decided to fly out to spend time with her. This is my first "non-real-job" related convention, so I have no idea what to expect. I went with no agenda in mind, just wanted to spend time with my sister and to get to know more of Young Living as a company. 

Day 1 - I signed in with over 9000 people, the Lake Palace Convention Centre, theme of this year's convention is "Live Your Dream!"

A welcome gala was set up with International theme, one of the highlights of this evening was the Ningxia Red shots! 

Day 2 - Bam, we sat through leadership sessions and this is not just motivational sessions... but lots of sound business sense and science.

Day 3,4 were packed with workshops with Debra Reybern, Dr. Scott Johnson, Dr. Cole Wooley, and many more speakers with lots of variety of workshops offered.
Train performed in one of the evening parties, and in between workshops we tried to sneak in to book stores and packed up valuable books to bring home with.

Day 5, we visited Young Living warehouse for a tour, then to Mona Farm where the first lavender seeds were planted. It was such an amazing experience.

Now that it's over and I am home, reflecting on the one week's packed of information, science, first hand experience of seeing, smelling, touching where essential oils come from... my heart is melted with so much respect & appreciation, overwhelmed with information over-load.

The process started with seed,  cultivate, distill, test then seal.  I had the honour of witnessing this process. It was the most beautiful sight!

During the convention, we had speakers like John C. Maxwell, William Davis (The author of the Wheat Belly), Daren Hardy (Publisher of Success Magazine), Connie Podesta to name a few. The speaker really who caught my attention was Gary Young (The founder of Young Living). 20 years ago, he took home from France some non-GMO lavender seeds in his cowboy boots. He sold his truck and bought two pressure cookers, welded them together to make his first distiller. And then all the rest are history!

Today, Young Living has 170 essential oils and over 550 products. Product reveal was fantastic! These new products are going to make an impact those who are coping with Autism, Alzheimer’s, and PTSD.

Regulating Glucose Levels

My family background has strong link to Type 2 Diabetes. When I was pregnant with my children, I had gestational diabetes... I injected insulin almost every time I eat. Some times I managed it, but other times it went too high or too low.

2 years after I gave birth to my youngest, I was diagnosed with diabetes. It didn't surprise me because I was told since I was a little girl that I would become a diabetic. But I was not over weight, I live a healthy lifestyle, I eat healthy... why should I "inherit" this curse? I cried out to God. While trying to manage my glucose, I worked very hard in exercising and dieting. Unfortunately I continue to go on a glucose rolling coaster, up and down on a daily basis and it was very exhausting.

After using the essential oils for other minors issues (like teeth grinding, cold, sore throat, wrinkles etc), I read about Ocotea. Extracted from an Ecuadorian tree, Ocotea has shown great potential in lowering blood sugar, lowering cortisol, digestive support, and as a disinfectant, antidiarrheal, antifungal and antiparasitic.

I put my brand new bottle of Ocotea to test the moment it was delivered to my home. That same evening, we went to a buffet dinner... by that time I probably have not eaten any dessert, carbohydrate or sweets for at least year. I took two drops under my tongue and ate my heart out... 2 hours later I tested, and it was PERFECT! I could not believe my eyes! So I took it for two more weeks and yes, I had wonderful numbers! That's when I started believing that the oils are truly God's extension of healing!

Now, I am regulating my glucose levels without needles. I still live a healthy lifestyle and watch what I eat, but with the help of Ocotea and other essential oils, I am able to have a good quality of life!

A few FACTS about Ocotea:

Did you know that the Ocotea tree is distinctively separated into male and female trees? And it is the female trees that produce foliage that is suitable for therapeutic grade essential oil!

A Bit More FACTS:

Unlike Cinnamon or Cinnamon Bark oil, Ocotea oil has a very low amount of the cinnamaldehyde compound. In Cinnamon you will find levels of cinnamaldehyde around at 50% or higher, whereas Ocotea only contains 5% or less. Cinnamaldehyde is the compound that creates skin sensitivity when you apply the oil. At high doses it can all have a toxic effect. Ocotea essential oils low level means that there are are no safety concerns, it can though depending on skin sensitivity still create a feeling of heat when applied so dilution is a good idea.

Ocotea has the highest level of alpha-humulene of any essential oil. Alpha-humulene can balance the body’s internal response to irritation.

How to Use Ocotea Essential Oil:

Topically: Apply neat to area of concern and or on the VitaFlex points of the feet (we will discuss this in my next blog).

Aromatically: Diffuse up to half an hour 3 times daily or inhale directly.

Ingestion: Place under the tongue, add to water, or place in a gel cap.

*Young Living recommends Ocotea to be used internally, however it has yet to be approved by the FDA as GRAS (Generally regarded as safe to ingest).*

Note - This is my personal experience. If you are on insulin or meds, you will need to consult your doctor before starting with the essential oils and monitor your glucose levels frequently to avoid hypoglycaemia (low glucose). 

Before You Start Using Essential Oils

A Few Important Information Before You Start 

1) Always skin test an essential oil before using it:
Each person's body is different, so apply in a small area first. Apply one oil or blend at a time. When layering oils that are new to you, allow enough time (3-5 minutes) for the body to respond before applying a second oil.

2) Use a small amount:
When applying essential oils to skin that may carry residue from cosmetics, personal care products containing synthetic chemicals. Some of them especially petroleum based chemicals can penetrate and remain in the skin and fatty tissues for days or weeks after use. Use small amount to begin.

3) Watch:
Essential oils may work against such chemicals and toxins built up in the body from chemicals in food, water and work environment. If you have this kind of an experience using essential oils, it may be wise to reduce or stop for a few days, and start an internal cleansing program.

4) Flush:
Double your water intake and keep flushing those toxins out of your body.


Alternatives to a detoxification program to determine the cause of the problem:

• Dilute 1-3 drops of essential oil in 1/2 tsp. of vegetable oil (almond or olive oils).
• Reduce the number of oils used at any time
• Use single oils or oil blends, one at a time
• Reduce the amount of oil used
• Reduce the frequency of application
• Drink more purified or distilled water
• Consult professionals to monitor detoxification
• Test the diluted essential oil on a small patch of skin for 30 seconds. If any redness or irritation results, dilute the are immediately with pure vegetable oil. Then cleanse with soap and water
• If skin irritation or other uncomfortable side effects persist, discontinue using the oil on that location and apply the oils on the bottom of the feet

You might want to avoid using products that contain the following ingredients to eliminate potential problems:

• Cosmetics, deodorants, and skin-care products containing aluminium, petrochemicals or other synthetic ingredients
• Perms, hair colours or dyes, hair sprays, or gels containing synthetic chemicals: avoid shampoos, toothpaste, mouthwash, and soaps containing synthetic chemicals such as sodium laurel sulcate, propylene glycol, or lead acetate
• Garden spray, paints, detergents, and cleansers containing toxic chemicals and solvents
• 
  

A Few Other Tips:

You can use many essential oils anywhere on the body except on the eyes and in the ears.

Keep "hot" oils such as oregano, cinnamon, thyme, eucalyptus, mountain savoury, lemon and orange. Blends such as Thieves, PanAway, Relieve It and Exodus II. Keep them out of reach of children.

These types of oils should always be diluted for both children and adults.

If a child or infant swallows an essential oils, do the following:

• Seek immediate emergency medical attention, if necessary.
• Give the child milk, cream, yogurt, or another safe, oil-soluble liquid to drink.

The Thieves Story

There are a number of different recipes for Thieves Oil. Young Livings Thieves Oil is based upon a 15th century recipe found in the Royal English Archives. This recipe protected a group of thieves from the black plague even as they robbed the highly contagious bodies of the plagues dead victims. During the course of their plundering, four of the thieves were caught by the king’s men. In exchange for not being burned at the stake, the four thieves disclosed the secret of their immunity. Young Livings Thieves Oil has been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense.

99.96 Percent Kill Rate against Bacteria

Young Living’s Thieves Oil has been scientifically proven to kill deadly germs. Research from Weber State University in Utah has shown that it has a 99.96 percent kill rate against airborne bacteria. It was proven to be highly anti-infectious, antiviral, antibacterial, and antiseptic.

Thieves oil blend includes clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and Eucalyptus radiata and has been specially blended to offer the same kind of defense. Thieves has been university tested and found to be highly effective against airborne bacteria.

How to Thieves Oil:

Cold & Flu symptoms:  

Diffuse Thieves oil, rub a drop on the bottom of your feet or take internally in your tea (honey & lemon is perfect).

Sore Throat:  

Add 2-4 drops in water and gargle, apply to throat and back of neck with a warm compressor.

Airborne Germs: 

Diffuse thieves oil for 10 minutes to kill mild and other airborne germs.

Toothache or Sore Gums: 

Apply a drop of thieves directly on teeth or gums.

Headache: 

Place a drop on your thumb and apply to the roof of your mouth for relief.

Healing of Bones and Joints: 

Apply to broken bones or joints for pain relief and hasten healing.

Tips for cleaning around the house and pet:

• Put 5 drops of thieves oil in the pedicure tub to kill bacteria
• Use it to clean pet cages, creating a cleaner and healthier environment for them
• Add to your mop water or spray bottle with water to clean floors and counter tops
• Use to dissolve the gummy adhesive on price labels

For General Health of you and your family:

Jasmine's personal recipe:

1. Melt 1/3 c coconut oil (cold press, organic preferred) 
2. Add 10 drops thieves 
3. Pour in a glass bottle 
4. Let it sit in room temperature. If you live in 70F climate, it will turn to cream. 

I put this on my kid’s feet every night, it keeps them healthy and boost immune system.

Essential oils are the vital fluids of plants, also known as “life” blood. The reason the word “essential” is used is because this is what is needed and necessary for this plant to have LIFE. They are made up of tiny molecules that can make their way into every cell and basically administer therapy at the most fundamental levels of our body.

One drop of essential oil contains about 40 million-trillion molecules. The human body has 100 trillion cells but just one drop of an essential oil contains enough molecules to cover every cell in our body.

Molecules are made up of compounds. There are three different compounds that are found in different essential oils. They are Phenols, Monoterpenes, and Sesquiterpenes.

Phenols:
Phenols create conditions where viruses and bacteria cannot live. They clean the receptor sites on the cells. If your receptor sites aren’t clean, cells can’t communicate, hence the body ends up malfunctioning and results in sickness.

The following essential oils contain phenols, with their percentages:

• Anise (90%)
• Clove (80%)
• Basil (70%)
• Oregano (70%)
• Thyme (48%)
• Calamus or Cane (30%)
• Cinnamon (25%)
• Cassia (8%)

Monoterpenes:
Monoterpenes are found in most essential oils and they offer a variety of healing properties. They can reprogram miswritten information in the cellular memory, or DNA.

Improper coding in your DNA causes cells malfunction and would results in diseases, including cancer.

• Grapefruit (92%)
• Angelica (80%)
• Frankincense (77%)
• Cypress (77%)
• Galbanum (75%)
• Pine (60%)
• Rose of Sharon (54%)

• Hyssop (30%)
• Peppermint (11%)

Sesquiterpenes:
Molecules deliver oxygen molecules to cells. Just like hemoglobin in the blood. The main issue with cancer cells is that it contains misinformation and sesquiterpenes can delete that. That all goes down at the same time that oxygen carried by these molecules create an environment where cancer cells can’t reproduce.

• Cedarwood (98%)
• Vetiver (96%)
• Sandalwood (95%)
• Patchouli (85%)
• Ginger (70%)
• Myrrh (60%)
• Spikenard (50%)
• Black Pepper (47%)
